I’m the reader in the family and am quite often more familiar with words not often used in regular conversation than my family. It’s been that way since I was a kid.
Dad: “They have dirijibles.”
Me: “What?”
Dad: “Dirijibles.”
Me: “Are you just making up a word?”
Dad: “It exists!”
*google it*
Me: “Oh yeah. Like, a zepplin.”
Dad: “Yeah. You mean I actually taught you a word? WHOOHOO!”
